By most accounts, U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner suffers from a public-private split in ability to deliver a message. Privately he is known as a dynamic personality. Publicly he thus far is unable to gain traction for his message. Or is there even a message? Admittedly, he has only so many fingers to plug the holes in the economy. And all of the troubles associated with navigating this situation certainly are a factor in the scrutiny being placed upon him. But it seems to me Geithner’s reported tactical and strategic financial genius is, in fact, what’s needed to engineer eoncomic recovery. His public role as the face of the “U.S. Economic Recovery Team,” however, is very different. It requires consistent communications of themes that direct attention to what we are out to accomplish, no matter the situation, backed up with illustrations of progress.
